Doetinchem lies in the Achterhoek region, just like Zelhem, where Lamers Reinigingstechniek is based in the neighbouring municipality of Bronckhorst. This page covers industrial extraction, bakeries and food companies, and the difference between a ventilation duct and process extraction. You will read which rules apply, where the limits of the standards lie and which equipment you use.

Doetinchem as a working town in the Achterhoek: the figures
Doetinchem has 59,623 inhabitants and 26,822 households, and ranks 74th of the 342 municipalities (CBS 2024). Its urbanisation level is 3, moderately urban, with 754 inhabitants per km².
| Sector | Number | % of 7,680 | Type of extraction or ventilation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trade and hospitality | 1,580 | 20.6% | Kitchen extraction, shop ventilation |
| Business services | 1,720 | 22.4% | Office ventilation |
| Government, education and healthcare | 1,450 | 18.9% | Schools and care |
| Industry and energy | 1,130 | 14.7% | Local exhaust, dust and chip extraction |
| Culture, recreation and other services | 795 | 10.4% | Public spaces |
| Agriculture, forestry and fishing | 190 | 2.5% | Barns and sheds with dust |
Industry, agriculture and trade and hospitality together account for almost 38% of the establishments. For comparison: in Arnhem the share of industry and energy is 9.4%. To see the larger cities in Gelderland, look at air duct cleaning in Arnhem and ductwork cleaning for Nijmegen businesses.
Ventilation duct or process extraction: why the difference matters
A common mistake is to treat every air pipe the same way. EN 15780 sets out cleanliness classes, assessment, method and frequency for ventilation systems, but is explicitly not intended for industrial process installations. The revised version from 2025 applies to ventilation systems except industrial, medical and laboratory facilities.
For process extraction you therefore look at other frameworks. The British HSE requires local exhaust ventilation to be thoroughly examined and tested at least every 14 months, and the record to be kept for 5 years. For metalworking, Volandis gives limits for inert dust of 10 mg/m³ inhalable and 5 mg/m³ respirable (8 hour TWA), and a flexible extraction system close to the work. For factories in general, go to industrial extraction duct cleaning.
Wood, flour and chips: dust that can ignite
In the woodworking industry, fine wood dust is a known explosion risk, with attention to extraction installations, spark detection and ATEX. For flour, meal and sugar, TNO states that an explosion is only possible above 60 g/m³ of fine dust in the air, but deposits in ducts can create exactly such a cloud when disturbed.
- Do not let deposits build up in extraction ducts; plan inspections at fixed moments.
- In EX zones an industrial, ATEX 114 certified vacuum cleaner is essential (TNO).
- Do not use compressed air to blow work areas clean; that puts dust into the air.
- Record who is responsible for the extraction and how often it is checked.
Bakeries and food companies in the region
For bakeries the Health Council of the Netherlands recommends a health based value of 0.2 mg/m³ of inhalable wheat flour dust over 8 hours; that is advice and not a statutory limit. In Belgium a limit of 0.5 mg/m³ applies. Alimento and TNO are clear about the method: no compressed air, hand brushes or brooms for cleaning, but an industrial vacuum cleaner, for which an M class filter is sufficient.
For food companies, the NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority) requires that air does not flow from contaminated to clean areas and that filters and parts needing regular cleaning are easily accessible. More about flour dust can be read under extraction in the bakery.
Duct cleaning Doetinchem: which equipment suits industry and SMEs?
| Application | Suitable solution | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Ventilation ducts of 100 to 600 mm in office or canteen | DC4 with brush set | Up to 30 m from one opening |
| Short extract ducts in a shop or workshop | PD4 on a power drill | Shaft up to 7.5 m |
| Stubborn deposits in sturdy steel ducts | Aggressive Tynex brush | Not on duct board |
| Thin pipes with many bends | Intelligent Airnozzle | Needs 700 L/min at about 10 bar |
| Ducts larger than 600 mm | Outside the DC4 range | For comparison: LIFA AIR CombiCleaner 40 for 400 to 1,200 mm |
For most ventilation ducts in Doetinchem businesses, the Electric DC4 brushing machine in practice is the starting point, supplemented with ventilation duct brush for cleaning contractors of the right stiffness. LIFA AIR is a different manufacturer and not a Lamers product; the comparison shows where the range of the DC4 ends. The complete range is under duct cleaning kit explained.
Fictional example: a manufacturer with a canteen and a workshop
A manufacturer has an office with a canteen at the front and a workshop with local exhaust at the back. The facilities team cleans the ventilation ducts of the office and canteen itself, under negative pressure and with the valves sealed. The process extraction in the workshop falls under its own inspection regime with fixed check moments and a logbook. The kitchen extraction of the canteen gets its own rhythm for grease filters. That way each system has its own framework instead of one general schedule. This example is fictional.
Putting the three regimes in one shared maintenance calendar, each with its own colour, makes the split visible to everyone in the company and stops the workshop extraction from quietly falling under the office routine.

Frequently asked questions: air duct cleaning Doetinchem
Does EN 15780 apply to the extraction in a factory in Doetinchem?
No, not to process extraction. EN 15780 is intended for ventilation systems and explicitly not for industrial process installations; the 2025 version also excludes industrial, medical and laboratory facilities. For the ventilation of the office and canteen of the same company, EN 15780 can be used as a guide.
How often should I check local exhaust ventilation in a workshop in Doetinchem?
A fixed Dutch term is not stated in the sources on this site. The British HSE requires local exhaust ventilation to be thoroughly examined and tested at least every 14 months and the record to be kept for 5 years. That term is a useful benchmark for your own inspection plan and logbook.
Why is wood dust in extraction ducts in Doetinchem a risk?
Fine wood dust can lead to a dust explosion. That is why extraction installations in woodworking need attention to spark detection and ATEX. Deposits in ducts can be stirred up when disturbed. So plan regular inspections and do not let dust build up. In EX zones an ATEX 114 certified vacuum cleaner is required.
May a bakery in Doetinchem use compressed air to blow away flour dust?
No, that is advised against. Alimento and TNO say that compressed air, hand brushes and brooms are a definite no for cleaning, because they put flour dust into the air. Use an industrial vacuum cleaner; according to TNO an M class filter is sufficient. In EX zones an ATEX 114 certified unit is required.
How many industrial companies are there in Doetinchem?
CBS counts 1,130 establishments in industry and energy in Doetinchem, 14.7% of the 7,680 establishments in 2024. In addition there are 190 establishments in agriculture, forestry and fishing. Together with trade and hospitality, that is almost 38% of the establishments where extraction of dust or grease plays a role.
Where is Lamers located relative to Doetinchem?
Lamers Reinigingstechniek is based in Zelhem, in the municipality of Bronckhorst, the neighbouring municipality of Doetinchem in the Achterhoek. There is no separate branch in Doetinchem. You request advice or a quotation by phone, email or through the form, and on the product pages you can ask for a callback.
Which machine cleans large ducts above 600 mm in a hall in Doetinchem?
The Danduct Clean DC4 works in ducts of 100 to 600 mm. For larger cross sections you need other equipment. For comparison: manufacturer LIFA AIR has the CombiCleaner 40 for 400 to 1,200 mm with a 40 metre shaft. That is not a Lamers product. Ask for advice about your situation.
Which dust limit applies to flour in a bakery in Doetinchem?
The Health Council recommends 0.2 mg/m³ of inhalable wheat flour dust over 8 hours. That is a health based recommendation and not a statutory limit in the Netherlands. In Belgium, Alimento uses a limit of 0.5 mg/m³ per 8 hours. Clean extraction ducts help keep the dust load in the work area low.
Can a facilities team in Doetinchem clean the canteen ducts itself?
Yes. With a machine such as the DC4 or PD4, the right brushes and sealing materials you can clean ventilation ducts yourself, provided you work under negative pressure and seal the valves. The kitchen extraction of a canteen needs its own approach, because Eurovent mentions wet methods for extract ducts from commercial kitchens.
What does the NVWA require of air flows in a food company in Doetinchem?
The NVWA wants air not to flow from contaminated to clean areas. Filters and parts that need regular cleaning or replacement must be easily accessible. Ceilings and fittings must also be designed so that dirt, condensation, mould and loose particles are kept to a minimum.
