Haarlemmermeer is not a classic city but a sprawling polder with several villages and many business parks in between. That calls for a different approach than a densely built town centre: fewer headaches with cramped shafts, more questions about height, length and the reach of your machine. On this page you can read how to tackle that, which figures matter and which Danduct Clean equipment fits. Lamers Reinigingstechniek supplies those machines from Zelhem; you carry out the work yourself or through a specialist cleaning contractor.

A polder full of business parks: what the CBS figures show
With 163,128 inhabitants, Haarlemmermeer ranks 14th of the 342 municipalities in the Netherlands. Its density is low for a municipality of that size: 827 inhabitants per km² over roughly 197 km² of land. Even so, the municipality has 157.4 establishments per 1,000 inhabitants, more than neighbouring Amstelveen (144.7). The commercial weight is therefore not concentrated in a compact centre, but spread across business parks and villages.
| CBS sector (2024) | Establishments | Share | What it means for the ducts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business services | 6,655 | 25.9% | Office ventilation, often in large buildings with central air handling |
| Trade and hospitality | 4,820 | 18.8% | Shop ventilation and greasy kitchen extraction |
| Manufacturing and energy | 3,555 | 13.8% | Process and local exhaust extraction, dust on the walls |
| Transport, information and communication | 3,090 | 12.0% | Halls and plant rooms with long duct runs |
| Government, education and care | 3,430 | 13.4% | Schools and care locations with hygiene requirements |
| Agriculture, forestry and fishing | 370 | 1.4% | Farms with their own ventilation |
What stands out is the relatively small share of government, education and care (13.4%). The centre of gravity lies with offices, trade and logistics. For anyone maintaining ducts, that means large volumes, long runs and buildings where the air handling unit often sits on a roof or on a plant floor.
Duct cleaning Haarlemmermeer in halls with long runs
In a distribution hall or a large commercial building, the main duct sometimes runs the full length of the building. Two things then decide whether your job succeeds: the reach of your shaft and the position of the access doors.
- Reach. The Danduct Clean DC4 works with a shaft of up to 30 metres and cleans ducts from 100 to 600 mm, round and rectangular, even through 90 degree bends. For most branches and secondary ducts, that is more than enough.
- Access. Eurovent recommends inspection openings no more than 10 metres apart, or placed so that there are no more than two bends of 45 degrees or more between them. On long runs without access doors, you therefore have to create access first.
- Large cross section. Main ducts above 600 mm are outside the range of the DC4 brushes. For comparison: other manufacturers offer machines up to 1,200 mm with a 40 metre shaft, or robots for horizontal ducts. Ask Lamers which solution suits your dimensions.
According to Eurovent, ducts wider than 500 mm need an access door of at least 500 by 400 mm. That is large enough to reach in properly with a camera or brush head. Want to see the options side by side first? Look at the duct cleaning kit for businesses per duct type.
Which machine suits which building in the polder?
A municipality with so many different buildings does not call for one machine, but for a choice per building type. This selection guide only uses the specifications published by the manufacturer.
| Situation | Duct size | Suitable approach | Watch out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Office floor with branches | 100 to 600 mm | DC4 with a 10, 20 or 30 m shaft | Choose the brush to match the duct material |
| Small extract ducts in toilets and pantry | small diameters | PD4 on a power drill, shaft 2.5 to 7.5 m | Ideal for short runs |
| Duct with many tight bends | from 30 mm | Intelligent Airnozzle with camera | Compressor of 700 L/min at about 10 bar |
| Main duct in a hall | above 600 mm | Machine for large cross sections (ask for advice) | Outside the range of DC4 brushes |
| Kitchen extraction in hospitality | varies | Brush plus wet method | Grease needs more than dry brushing |
For the largest group of buildings, offices and shops, the Danduct Clean DC4 for businesses is the workhorse: you feed the shaft into the duct, set speed and direction of rotation, and the machine does the rest. The automatic left and right system can be set by time, so the brush does not wind itself up in a long duct.
Restaurants and shops: grease and dust in the same building
Almost one in five establishments in Haarlemmermeer falls under trade and hospitality. That is 4,820 businesses, from shops with simple ventilation to restaurants with heavy kitchen extraction. The distinction matters, because the dirt is different.
In shop ventilation you deal with dry dust, which you remove with a brush and negative pressure. In kitchen extraction you deal with grease. According to KHN (Royal Dutch Hospitality Association), grease sticks to the inside of extract ducts and can catch fire during flambéing or a pan fire. There is no legal cleaning frequency, but fire insurers do require regular maintenance. Rabobank advises professional cleaning at least once a year, and twice a year for a restaurant with deep fryers.
Eurovent considers dry methods usually sufficient for supply and general extract ducts, but wet methods necessary for commercial kitchen extract. If one building combines a shop and a kitchen, plan two separate work rounds. You will find more on tackling grease under kitchen extract cleaning for cleaning contractors.
Dust free work while the building stays open
Distribution centres and shops rarely close their doors for maintenance. The work has to fit in between daily operations, without dust from the duct ending up in the hall or shop.
- Seal the duct section. Danduct supplies duct balloons to close off a section during cleaning or inspection, and foam caps for valves and diffusers.
- Create negative pressure. Keep every section you clean under continuous negative pressure with an extraction unit.
- Choose the filtration. If the extraction unit exhausts inside the building, a HEPA filter of 99.97% at 0.3 µm is required. Exhausting outdoors is another option.
- Work zone by zone. Clean section by section, so the rest of the building keeps running.
Everything you need to close off sections can be found under negative pressure with HEPA extraction for businesses. That is often the part that makes the difference between a tidy job and complaints from users.
Fictional example: office wing next to a distribution hall
A logistics company in one of the villages has a hall with a two storey office wing. The maintenance team wants to know whether it can maintain the ducts itself.
The survey shows round ducts of 160 to 400 mm with a few bends in the office wing, short extract ducts in the toilet blocks, and in the hall a main duct wider than 600 mm. The conclusion of this fictional example:
- The office wing fits within the reach of a DC4 with a 20 metre shaft.
- The short extract ducts in the toilet blocks are faster with a small machine on a power drill.
- The main duct in the hall needs a different machine or a specialist.
- Every section needs duct balloons and an extraction unit with HEPA, because the hall stays in operation.
This kind of split is common in Haarlemmermeer: part of the work you do yourself, part you outsource. For the cost of the outsourced part, one cleaning contractor quotes a custom price after inspection; another mentioned €150 to €350 per unit for smaller commercial buildings in April 2026.
A useful habit from this example: keep one sheet per building with duct sizes, run lengths and the position of each access door. The next time a question comes up, you already know which tool fits which section.
Ventilation duct cleaning Haarlemmermeer and neighbouring municipalities
If you work as an installer or cleaning contractor outside the polder as well, the job differs per municipality. In Haarlem it is about compact buildings with tight ceilings, see air duct cleaning in Haarlem. In Amstelveen the emphasis is even more on offices; the page about ductwork cleaning for Amstelveen businesses covers that.
For a comparison with other municipalities, see ductwork cleaning in the Netherlands. Not sure which machine suits your buildings? Request a quote or ask Lamers for advice. You can also request a callback or ask a question on the product page.

Frequently asked questions: air duct cleaning Haarlemmermeer
Which machine cleans a main duct wider than 600 mm in a hall in Haarlemmermeer?
The DC4 brushes go up to a 600 mm cross section. For wider main ducts you need a machine for large ducts or a robot. Other manufacturers, for example, offer machines up to 1,200 mm with a 40 metre shaft. Ask Lamers which solution suits your dimensions before you choose an approach.
How many business establishments does Haarlemmermeer have according to CBS?
Statistics Netherlands (CBS) counted 25,675 business establishments in Haarlemmermeer in 2024. That is 157.4 per 1,000 inhabitants. The largest groups are business services (25.9%) and trade and hospitality (18.8%). Transport, information and communication accounts for 12.0% of establishments.
How far apart may access doors be in a long duct in Haarlemmermeer?
Eurovent recommends inspection openings no more than 10 metres apart, or placed so that no more than two bends of 45 degrees or more lie between them. Openings also belong on both sides of dampers, coils, heat recovery units, attenuators, filters and fans. Ducts above 500 mm need an access door of at least 500 by 400 mm.
Can a distribution centre in Haarlemmermeer stay open during duct cleaning?
Yes, if you work section by section. Seal the duct section with balloons, close off valves with foam caps and keep the section under continuous negative pressure. If the extraction unit exhausts indoors, use a HEPA filter of 99.97% at 0.3 µm. That keeps the dust in the duct and out of the hall.
How often should a restaurant in Haarlemmermeer have its kitchen extract duct cleaned?
There is no legal frequency, but fire insurers do require regular maintenance. Rabobank advises professional cleaning at least once a year, and twice a year for a restaurant with deep fryers. According to KHN, you clean more often with intensive use of a grill, fryer or wok.
Is the DC4 long enough for the ducts in an office wing in Haarlemmermeer?
In most office wings, yes. The DC4 works with a shaft of up to 30 metres in ducts from 100 to 600 mm, round and rectangular, also vertically and through 90 degree bends. The manufacturer supplies the machine with 10, 20 and 30 metre shafts, depending on the package.
Does Lamers have a branch in Haarlemmermeer?
No. Lamers Reinigingstechniek is based in Zelhem and supplies Danduct Clean equipment to businesses throughout the Netherlands. You can request a quote, request a callback or ask a question through the website. The cleaning itself is done by your own maintenance team or by a specialist cleaning contractor.
What does air duct cleaning cost for a commercial building in Haarlemmermeer?
There is no fixed price per square metre. One cleaning contractor calls it a custom price after inspection, depending on building type, number and length of ducts, contamination and accessibility. Another mentioned €150 to €350 per unit for smaller commercial buildings and €450 to €950 for a camera inspection in April 2026.
Which cleaning method do you use for a shop with a kitchen in Haarlemmermeer?
Split the work. For the shop ventilation, Eurovent considers a dry method with brush and negative pressure usually sufficient. For the commercial kitchen extract, wet methods are needed to remove the grease. Plan two separate work rounds, each with its own sealing and extraction.
Why are ducts in Haarlemmermeer different from those in an old town centre?
The municipality is spread out, with 827 inhabitants per km² and many business parks. Buildings are often large and newer, with long duct runs and large cross sections. In an old town centre, cramped ceilings and shafts are the issue. Here it is more about reach, access doors and the right machine per duct size.
