All figures and standards come from public sources that we opened ourselves, last checked on 6 October 2026. Where a figure comes from a secondary source, such as a trade article, this is stated. At the bottom of this page you will find the full list of guides.

Guides on costs, frequency and rules
Start here if you are drawing up a budget or maintenance plan. The guide on air duct cleaning cost puts public price indications for homes and business premises side by side and uses a fictional example to work out when owning equipment pays off. The guide on how often to clean air ducts lists, per building type, what government bodies, insurers and standards advise.
If you want to know what you have to comply with, read the explanation of the rules for clean ductwork: EN 15780:2025, VDI 6022, article 6.2 of the Working Conditions Decree (Arbobesluit) and what is and is not laid down in law for hospitality in the Netherlands.
Ductwork cleaning manuals for daily practice
For those who get to work themselves, there are step by step manuals:
- air duct cleaning step by step, with inspection, sealing, negative pressure, cleaning, measuring and reporting;
- the choice between DIY air duct cleaning and outsourcing, including what you can safely do as a user;
- an explanation of cleaning MEV systems in homes and residential buildings;
- and a separate manual for cleaning a heat recovery system, including filter maintenance.
Each manual follows the same order as the work itself, so you can keep it open on a tablet while you prepare a job.
Ventilation duct cleaning tips per sector
A hospital has different requirements from a bakery or a hotel. That is why each sector has its own page with the rules, risks and choice of machine that apply there. The overview is listed under air duct cleaning by sector.
A frequent question from hospitality is how to tackle the duct behind the hood. On the page about cleaning a cooker hood duct you can read what KHN (Royal Dutch Hospitality Association), insurers and the NVRL quality mark scheme say about it.
From guide to the right machine
The guides explain what needs to be done, the product pages show what to do it with. On the page about duct cleaning kit you compare the Danduct Clean machines that Lamers supplies. For long ducts from 100 to 600 mm there is the Electric duct brushing machine, and for the choice between soft, standard or more aggressive brushes there is the page on air duct brush.
How the guides in this knowledge base are made
Every guide follows the same method, so you know what to expect.
| Principle | What it means |
|---|---|
| A source for every fact | a source list with links at the bottom of every guide |
| Reference date | sources checked on 6 October 2026 |
| Primary before secondary | legal texts, standards publishers and government come first; trade articles are named as such |
| No invented figures | calculations are labelled fictional, machine prices are given on quotation |
| Answer first | the first paragraph gives the answer, the rest the substantiation |
Frequently asked questions: air duct cleaning guide
Who is the air duct cleaning knowledge base intended for?
For everyone who deals with ventilation professionally: facility managers, facilities teams in care, education and industry, installers and cleaning contractors that offer duct cleaning as a service. Housing managers also find answers, for example on the advised intervals from Milieu Centraal (Dutch public information centre) for mechanical extract ventilation and balanced ventilation.
How up to date are the guides in this duct cleaning knowledge base?
All sources were checked on 6 October 2026. Standards change: EN 15780, for example, was revised in 2025 and that version replaces the 2011 edition. For an important decision, always check the reference date and the source link below the guide, so that you know whether anything has changed since.
Which guide explains what cleaning air ducts costs?
The cost guide. It contains price indications from quotation platforms for homes, such as an average of €100 to €300 according to Homedeal, and indications per unit for smaller business premises. You will also find a fictional calculation for comparing outsourcing with owning equipment, with the machine price left open.
Which guide helps you draw up a maintenance schedule for ducts?
The guide on cleaning frequency. It contains a table per building type with advice from Milieu Centraal, insurers, KHN and VDI 6022, and six steps to turn that into your own schedule. Combine it with the standards guide to justify your interval to management or the insurer.
Is the revised EN 15780:2025 explained in the knowledge base?
Yes. The knowledge base explains that EN 15780:2025 replaces the 2011 version and now also covers kitchen extraction. It also covers what is in informative annex A and which dust limits trade publications mention. Those limits have not been verified from the standard itself and are therefore given as a secondary source.
Can you clean ventilation ducts in house with the manuals from the knowledge base?
Partly. According to Milieu Centraal you can clean grilles and valves yourself, but not carry out maintenance on the ventilation unit with its motor. For the ducts themselves you need professional tools, sealing and extraction. The manuals show per step what you can do yourself and when you need a specialist or your own machine.
Why are there no machine prices in the duct cleaning guides?
Because prices depend on the version, the shaft lengths, brushes and accessories you need. Lamers prepares a tailored quote for that. In the guides we therefore work with price on quotation and, where it helps, with a fictional calculation in which you fill in your own quoted amount.
Does the knowledge base also contain tips for hospitality extract ducts?
Yes, on the sector page for hospitality. There you can read that there is no statutory cleaning frequency in the Netherlands, but that fire insurers do require regular maintenance, and how the NVRL quality mark scheme with grease layer measurements of 500 and 200 µm works.
Which types of sources does the knowledge base use for figures and standards?
Legal texts such as the Working Conditions Decree, standards publishers such as Standard Norge, BSI and DIN Media, government bodies such as RIVM, RVO and Milieu Centraal, trade organisations such as KHN, insurers, Danduct Clean manufacturer documentation and trade articles. Every figure is given with its source, so you can check it yourself.
What should you do if your question about duct cleaning is not in the knowledge base?
Then duct cleaning advice. You can ask a question, request a callback or request a quote for equipment. Pass on the diameter, length and shape of your ducts and tell us what kind of building they are in, and you will receive targeted advice on the right machine.
