Ede is a large, green municipality on the Veluwe with a town centre and a number of smaller villages. Like Lamers Reinigingstechniek in Zelhem, the municipality lies in the province of Gelderland. On this page you will find what the figures say, which requirements food businesses must set for airflows and which Danduct Clean equipment helps with that. Lamers supplies the machines; you do the cleaning yourself or through a specialist company.

What does business activity in Ede say about duct maintenance?
Ede has 123,532 inhabitants on just over 318 km² of land, with 388 inhabitants per km². That is sparsely populated for the number 24 in the Netherlands. Even so, there are 138.6 business establishments per 1,000 inhabitants.
| Sector | Establishments in Ede | Share | Maintenance need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business services | 3,950 | 23.1% | Supply and extract in offices |
| Industry and energy | 3,030 | 17.7% | Source and process extraction, production halls |
| Government, education and care | 2,840 | 16.6% | Schools, care and public buildings |
| Trade and hospitality | 2,780 | 16.2% | Shops and kitchen extraction |
| Agriculture, forestry and fishing | 905 | 5.3% | Agricultural buildings and processing |
Agriculture and industry together account for 905 plus 3,030 establishments, 23.0% combined. In neighbouring Arnhem, the share of industry and energy is 9.4%, roughly half. Ede is therefore more of a working municipality than an office town.
Duct cleaning Ede in food processing businesses
For anyone processing food, ventilation is a hygiene matter. The verification list of the NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority) for a new approval mentions three points directly related to ducts:
- Airflows from contaminated to clean areas must be avoided.
- Filters and parts that need regular cleaning or replacement must be easily accessible.
- Ceilings and fittings must be designed to limit dirt, condensation, mould and loose particles.
A contaminated duct hanging above a production line, or a supply that draws in air from a dirty zone, does not fit with that. The BRCGS guide on air quality in food production helps you determine outdoor air, supply air category and filtration, with Eurovent 4/23 as its basis.
In practical terms this means: access doors in places you can reach without disrupting production, a fixed moment for filter replacement and a plan for cleaning ducts in the clean zone. The sector deep dive is under air duct cleaning in the food industry.
Dust in production and storage: when does it become a risk?
In industry and processing, dust builds up in extraction ducts. The type of dust determines how serious that is.
| Dust | Limit or guide value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Inert inhalable dust | 10 mg/m³ (8 hour TWA) | Volandis |
| Inert respirable dust | 5 mg/m³ (8 hour TWA) | Volandis |
| Wheat flour dust | 0.2 mg/m³ advice, no statutory limit | Health Council of the Netherlands |
| Fine dust from flour, meal or sugar | explosion possible above 60 g/m³ | TNO |
Wood dust and flour dust can ignite. In woodworking, fire service practice points to extraction installations, spark detection and ATEX. In a bakery or grain processing plant: no compressed air, hand brushes or brooms to clean rooms, but an industrial vacuum cleaner, and in EX zones one certified to ATEX 114. For local exhaust ventilation, British regulations also require a thorough examination and test at least every 14 months. That is not a Dutch obligation, but it is a useful yardstick for your maintenance plan.
Dry or wet cleaning in a production business in Ede?
A production business often has three kinds of ducts in one building: office ventilation, process extraction and a canteen kitchen. Each calls for a different method.
- Office and canteen supply. According to Eurovent, dry cleaning with a rotating brush and negative pressure is usually sufficient for supply and general extract ducts.
- Kitchen extract. For extract from commercial kitchens, wet methods are needed to loosen grease. The manufacturer offers the DC4 with a spray system.
- Process extraction. Here the type of dust plays a role. Combustible dust calls for extra precautions with extraction, and consultation with the company's safety expert.
For ducts of 100 to 600 mm, the Electric duct brushing machine for businesses from Danduct Clean is the logical basis. It cleans round and square ducts, vertical runs and through 90 degree bends, with a shaft of up to 30 metres.
Fictional example: a processor with an office and a hall
A medium sized food processor on the edge of one of the villages wants to bring the maintenance of its air ducts in house. The facilities team first draws up an overview:
- An office wing with round ducts of 125 to 315 mm.
- A production hall with supply via metal ducts above the lines.
- A canteen with its own extraction hood.
Outcome of this fictional example: the in house team cleans the office wing and the metal supply ducts in the hall with a brushing machine, outside production hours and under negative pressure. The canteen kitchen gets a wet clean. The order of work runs from clean to dirty, so no dust moves from a dirty zone to a clean one. Each section is sealed with balloons and diffuser caps; how that works is explained under duct sealing balloon for businesses.
The costs are compared too. A cleaning company quotes a bespoke price after inspection; for the price of your own equipment you request a quote from Lamers.
Ventilation duct cleaning Ede and the rest of Gelderland
Ede lies between two municipalities with a very different profile. Arnhem has a relatively large share of government, education and care (24.5%), see ductwork cleaning for Arnhem businesses. Amersfoort leans more towards business services, see air duct cleaning in Amersfoort.
All municipalities are listed under duct cleaning by municipality for cleaning contractors. Want to compare the machines first? Then look at tools for cleaning air ducts in practice. For a quote, a callback request or a question, contact Lamers in Zelhem, by form, phone or WhatsApp.
Checklist for a food or production site in Ede
Before you ask for advice, this list helps you gather the right information in one walk round the building:
- Which zones are clean and which are dirty, and in which direction does the air flow between them?
- Where are the access doors, and can you reach them without stopping a production line?
- Which ducts carry dry dust, which carry grease and which carry combustible dust?
- What are the smallest and largest diameters, and how long is the longest run?
- When is the next audit, and which records do you want to show there?
With these answers, the choice between brushing, wet cleaning and extra extraction becomes much clearer, and the advice on machine and accessories can be more specific.

Frequently asked questions: air duct cleaning Ede
Which NVWA requirements affect the air ducts of a food business in Ede?
The verification list for a new approval requires that airflows do not run from contaminated to clean areas, that filters and parts you clean regularly are easily accessible, and that ceilings and fittings limit dirt, condensation, mould and loose particles. Clean and accessible ducts are therefore part of that.
How many agricultural and production businesses are there in Ede?
In 2024, CBS counted 905 establishments in agriculture, forestry and fishing in Ede and 3,030 in industry and energy. Together that is 23.0% of all 17,120 establishments. In Arnhem, the share of industry and energy is 9.4%, roughly half that of Ede.
May a bakery in Ede blow away flour dust with compressed air?
Preferably not. Alimento and TNO advise against compressed air, hand brushes and brooms for cleaning rooms in bakeries. Use an industrial vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter or at least an M class filter. In EX zones an ATEX 114 certified vacuum is required. This concerns cleaning rooms, not the cleaning method inside a duct.
Can I also clean greasy ducts of a company canteen in Ede with the DC4?
According to Eurovent, wet methods are needed for grease in kitchen extract. Danduct offers the DC4 with a spray system and with a more aggressive brush set. Ask Lamers which combination of brush and sprayer suits the contamination and the cross section of your duct.
How do you keep dust out of a clean production zone during duct cleaning in Ede?
Work from clean to dirty, seal off each section with balloons and foam caps and keep the duct under continuous negative pressure. If the extraction unit exhausts indoors, a HEPA filter of 99.97% at 0.3 µm is needed. Plan the work outside production hours, so you do not have to cover the line while work is going on.
How often should local exhaust ventilation in an Ede workshop be checked?
A statutory Dutch period is not given in our sources. A useful yardstick comes from British regulations: thoroughly examine and test local exhaust ventilation at least every 14 months, and keep the report for 5 years. Include that interval in your maintenance plan if you have no agreement of your own.
Which dust limit applies to inert dust in a production hall in Ede?
Volandis mentions 10 mg/m³ for inert inhalable dust and 5 mg/m³ for respirable dust, both as an 8 hour time weighted average. For wheat flour dust, the Health Council of the Netherlands advises 0.2 mg/m³, but that is advice and not a statutory limit. Clean extraction helps you stay below those values.
Is wood dust in extraction ducts in Ede dangerous?
Yes. Fine wood dust creates a risk of explosion. Woodworking therefore calls for attention to the extraction installation, spark detection and ATEX requirements. Do not let dust build up in ducts and filters, and consult your safety expert before you start working in such an installation with cleaning equipment.
Is Lamers located close to Ede?
Lamers Reinigingstechniek is based in Zelhem, which, like Ede, is in Gelderland. The company supplies Danduct Clean cleaning equipment and has no branch in Ede. You can request a quote, request a callback or ask a question via the site. You do the cleaning yourself or have a specialist carry it out.
Which standard do I use for the office ducts of a production business in Ede?
For the general ventilation of office and canteen, EN 15780:2025 is the basis. That standard gives cleanliness classes and inspection intervals, but it does not apply to industrial process installations. For the process extraction in the hall you therefore use the requirements for occupational hygiene and dust, not EN 15780.
